SMS Sultan Mohamad Jiwa Wins Overall ARAS PFK Award

Congratulations, boys and girls! We didn't have this during our times.

Sekolah Menengah Sains (SMS) Sultan Mohamad Jiwa in Sungai Petani, Kedah emerged as the overall champion for the second 'Anugerah Rakan Alam Sekitar' (ARAS) PFK Award on 7 May 2008.

Initiated by PETRONAS Fertilizer (Kedah) Sdn Bhd (PFK), the award was launched on 19 November 2006 as part of PFK's efforts to engage and educate members of the community on environmental conservation and preservation issues. The programme, with the theme on Marine Ecosystem, is the result of collaborative efforts between PFK and the Kuala Muda/Yan Education Department.

More than 200 guests including representatives from the Kuala Muda/Yan Education Department as well as school principals, teachers and students from the participating schools attended the final competition held on 7 May at the PFK Agrenas Hall. Also present were representatives from Jabatan Alam Sekitar, Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran and Jabatan Pertahanan Awam.

This year, the number of participating schools doubled from last year's five schools. The activities started off with two camps at Damai Park and Pulau Payar. Here, the students learnt about the marine ecosystem and were exposed to the process of rehabilitation of corals and mangrove swamps. They completed the tasks by presenting their findings in a final ARAS presentation.

In his speech, Encik Roseman Rosli, Senior Manager, Technical Services Department, PFK, expressed his satisfaction at the encouraging participation of schools and their teachers who have worked hard to ensure that their schools performed their best.

Meanwhile, Tuan Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Salleh from the Education Department expressed his appreciation of the support given by PFK and the teamwork among the facilitators and personnel from the Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah to make this programme a success.

Other winning awards went to SMK Batu 17 for the Best Notice Board and Best ICT categories. The Best Presenter award went to Cik Nor Asyikin Binti Mohd Murshid from SM Sains Mohamad Jiwa. SMK Batu 5 took the 2nd runner-up position for overall performance, Best ICT and Best Notice Board.

WM's 3rd cycle chemo

Just to update, 3rd cycle chemo was administered on 8/4/08. Alhamdulillah no problems and I was discharged from hospital yesterday.

WM's Chemotherapy

Just to update everyone that my 2nd cycle chemo was safely administered on tuesday, 18/3/08. Generally, I'm ok but feeling tired - as expected from the chemo kicking in.

Thanks again to all who were present at the masjid for the hajat prayer and get together. I greatly appreciate your presence. Hopefully, we can meet up again.

Solat hajat untuk Wan Malek

Alhamdulillah, solat hajat untuk Wan Malek telah selamat dijalankan pada Sabtu 7 Mac 2008 di Mesjid Al Muhsinin, Taman Danau Desa, Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur di antara waktu maghrib dan isyak.

Wan Malek turut hadhir bersama kawan2 yang datang. He was in high spirit being among friends.

Marilah kita terus doakan agar Allah Taala meredhai dan merahmati usaha beliau untuk berubat.
